Forecasting Love and Weather (2022) - Kdrama - ⭐️⭐️
Who knew that weather forecast could be that interesting! Am I a nerd?
As I said previously, I like Park Min-young, so I had to watch “Forecasting Love and Weather - 기상청 사람들: 사내연애 잔혹사 편”. On top a few of the supporting actors are well known faces to me, it was another reason for me to watch.
Synopsis:
Jin Ha-kyung works for the KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) as a forecaster. She seems to be pretty successful even in love. Indeed, she is engaged to her coworker Han Ki-joon a spokesperson for the KMA. After 10 years of relationship, they are ready to tie the knot. This was the plan if she hadn’t surprised him in bed with Chae Yoo-jin, a weather reporter, in their own bed.
Ha-kyung breaks up with her fiancé and is now the center of all the gossip as Ki-joon and Yoo-jin go public with their relationship and are getting married. She then decides to focus on work and to never date a coworker again. But it was before Lee Shi-won a talented forecaster joins her team. It appears that he is Yoo-jin ex-boyfriend. While Ki-joon decide to play dirty with Ha-kyung despite asking her to keep things civilised, she ends up having a one-night stand with Shi-won after spending the night drinking with him.

Review:
I was expecting a noona type of drama as between Ha-kyung and Shi-won there is a notable age gap, which in Korea can be considered significant. It was not. My first disappointment in this series. The next one is the lack of chemistry between Park Min-young and Song Kang. The relationship between the two didn’t feel “real” enough for me because they face issues, but never talk or solve it. The writer played the emotional card but at no point we see them talking about these issues and overcome it. It was the same thing with Shi-won’s dad story. No fix at all, we just put everything under rug.
The relationship between Ki-joon and Yoo-jin was annoying. They both cheated and they were shameless enough to go public quickly and get married. I didn’t emphasis with them at all. Especially how Ki-joon took everything for granted. And Spoiler Alert they all become friends at the end? What did the writer think? You can forgive the cheater yes, but the way he treated her after 10 years of relationship, he didn’t deserve her friendship. End of spoiler.
What made me keep going is my nerdy side. I was really interested into the weather forecast. And having a link between the episode weather and the relationship status was a really nice touch.
But it was not the only thing that kept me interested. The side story of Eom Dong-han was really touching. To see his struggle to reconnect with his estranged wife and daughter after being away for years felt realistic. After living in Asia for almost 10 years, I can tell that it is not rare to have the father living in a different city from their wife and kids. It was a really touching story.
I also really liked Oh Myung-joo storyline. I felt sad for her throughout all the series. She sacrificed herself for her husband to be able to study for his exam. She was the sole breadwinner of the family; she did all the house chores and took care of the kids while her husband stayed home not even studying. It was the patriarchy at its finest and I just wanted to slap him and tell Myung-joo to wake up and leave him asap.
Overall, this drama is easy to watch but not one that I will rewatch. The side stories where more interesting than the main one. This explain the 2 out of 5.
